Stephen stars as Teddy in the upcoming series SEXY BEAST for Paramount+. The series, the final two episodes of which he also directs, will be released in January 2024.
He is best known for the leading role Bill Compton in Alan Ball’s long running HBO series TRUE BLOOD alongside Anna Paquin which wracked up numerous Golden Globe and Emmy nominations on its way to becoming one of HBO’s highest rated shows of all time. Television credits include FX’s mini-series, THE BASTARD EXECUTIONER for Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter, Marvel’s THE GIFTED and SAFE-HOUSE for ITV. In film, Stephen can be seen in the AFTER film series with Hero Fiennes Tiffin, CONCUSSION with Will Smith and DEVIL’S KNOT with Colin Firth and Reece Witherspoon. His earlier work includes PRINCE VALIANT opposite Katherine Heigl and the Oscar Nominated QUILLS opposite Geoffrey Rush, Kate Winslet, Joaquin Phoenix and Michael Caine.
Stephen also played leading roles in several British television series including MEN ONLY, NY-LON, FIVE’S MENACE and the BBC’s THE GRAND, LILLIES and EMPATHY. In the US, he starred opposite Debra Messing in USA’s Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated STARTER WIFE.
An accomplished director and producer, Stephen most recently directed UK indie A BIT OF LIGHT, starring Anna Paquin, Ray Winstone and Pippa Bennett-Warner, THE PARTING GLASS starring Cynthia Nixon and Melissa Leo released by Sony, and UKTV/Amazon TV series FLACK starring Academy Award and Golden Globe winning actress Anna Paquin. A LAMDA grad, Stephen has extensive theatre credits and spent much of his early career with the RSC and the National Theatre of Wales.
