Philip was born in Geneva to Sephardi Jewish parents of Turkish origin and grew up in Istanbul before establishing his career in London. He can most recently be seen in THE DAY OF THE JACKAL with Eddie Redmayne for Peacock, Sky Atlantic and Now, as well as New Pictures’ PROTECTION and BREATHTAKING (both for ITV).
Philip is a stalwart of British television and theatre, whose work includes portraying Dad in the Royal Court’s BAGHDADDY, and the popular ITV prime-time drama NO RETURN opposite Sheridan Smith. He has received critical acclaim for his portrayal of Uday Hussein in HBO/BBC drama HOUSE OF SADDAM. Film credits include the BBC/Sundance TV drama THE HONOURABLE WOMAN, directed by Hugo Blick, Mike Leigh’s comedy drama HAPPY GO LUCKY and RED II (sequel to RED). On stage, Philip recently starred in THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD at Chichester Festival Theatre as well as in the eponymous role of HENRY IV at the Globe. He appears regularly at the National Theatre, latterly playing leads in productions of OSLO and SALOME (both 2017).
Philip is also one half of the theatre-making duo Realfake Theatre with Nina Bowers. Their first full length show ENGLISH KINGS KILLING FOREIGNERS was commissioned by and ran at the Camden People’s Theatre in 2024.
